Rotator Cuff Repair Surgery Shoulder Beautification Surgery

Steve Mora MD
Orange County Shoulder Doctor

Rotator Cuff tears of the shoulder can cause severe pain and weakness. When the rotator cuff tendon pulls off the bone, it will rarely heal. On the contrary, the torn tendon usually worsens with time. Patients typically have pain and weakness that effects even simple activities. Patients can become despondent and upset because they cannot do the activities that bring them happiness.  The pain can even affect their ability to sleep properly. When surgery is necessary the torn tendon is cleaned up and re-attached back to bone. We call this rotator cuff repair. The re-attachment is done with very small sutures that I anchor into the bone and then pass these suture through the torn tendon. Once the sutures are passed I tie them down in such a way that it firmly brings the torn tendon back down upon the bone. This procedure is done through very small arthroscopic incisions, under general anesthesia, and at a outpatient surgery center. A sling is worn for a little over a month. Once the tendon heals activities can be increased. After a few months the rotator cuff tendon will naturally adhere itself to the bone. The healing process takes about 6-9 months.  Once healed and rehabilitation completed patients can usually resume all normal activities.

The picture below shows the tendon before and after the repair.

When everything goes well the patient is able to regain use of their shoulder in a BEAUTIFUL way. The way it was meant to be !
