The Ring Magazine, often referred to as The Bible of Boxing, released an official announcement regarding Canelo Alvarez’s elbow surgery, and Dr. Mora was named as the operating surgeon.

About Canelo Alvarez
Canelo Alvarez is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, with world championships across multiple weight classes and a career defined by elite skill, durability, and longevity at the highest level of the sport.
Following his recent loss to Terence Crawford, Canelo publicly revealed that he had been dealing with an elbow injury. Shortly after the fight, he announced that surgical treatment would be required to address the issue.
Why Dr. Mora Was Chosen
Dr. Mora is internationally recognized for his expertise in combat-sports injuries, particularly complex elbow conditions seen in boxers, MMA fighters, and wrestlers. He has treated athletes from around the world and is known for managing high-demand cases where performance, durability, and safe return to sport are critical.
Dr. Mora has also coined the term “Cauliflower Elbow”, a combat-sports–specific condition describing chronic soft-tissue and joint pathology of the elbow caused by repetitive trauma. His work in this area has helped define how these injuries are diagnosed, treated, and surgically managed in elite fighters.
Canelo Alvarez selected Dr. Mora specifically because of this specialized expertise and deep experience treating combat-related elbow injuries.
Postoperative Recovery
Following surgery on his left elbow, Canelo Alvarez shared a photo on his official Instagram account showing himself in recovery, thanking supporters and beginning the rehabilitation process. The post underscored both the successful completion of surgery and his focus on returning stronger.
