Knee Arthritis Treatment does not Always Equal Joint Replacement

By Steve Mora MD

CAN YOU GUESS WHICH KNEE PICTURED BELOW HURTS? One of my patients recently came back to see me complaining of knee pain. He was having pain at night and stiffness. I had not seen him since I did a fat based stem cell procedure called Lipogems and prior to this a minimally invasive procedure where I strengthened his arthritic bone by injecting it with calcium phosphate (Sub Chondroplasty). Prior to seeing me he had been told that he needed a knee replacement. He was not ready for it. Today he said his LEFT KNEE IS DOING EXCELLENT. HE WAS SEEING ME COMPLAINING OF RIGHT KNEE PAIN. It’s pretty amazing when things go well for patient suffering from severe arthritis. I treat arthritis a little differently than most docs. I try to restore and not replace. My “patient and disease specific” approach to treating knee arthritis is not for everyone but when it works patients are very happy. If you want more information on how to “make your knee great again” please visit my blog site at www.myorthodoc.com. My blog article discusses how arthritis affects patients in different ways. The treatment therefore has to be very specific to both the disease and the patient. For this reason my approach is very specific and based on numerous factors. Regenerative medicine options such as platelet rich plasma and stem cells is not the only tool in the toolbox for treating arthritis. In many cases there are other options that can help. In many cases it also requires a step wise approach. Sometimes I do recommend minimally invasive surgery, sub chondroplasty, Hyaluronate and therapy.  I also want to reassure my patients that I do not recommend expensive Injections and each and everyone who walks through my door.

Please read the my blog article if you are interested in not having a knee replacement. If you think this is the direction you’d like to go please call my office at 714-332-5498 and set up a consultation. It will be helpful for me to look at recent x-rays and a recent MRI. Please make sure you bring in the MRI images on a CD as well as the report. If you had surgery ask your surgeon if you can see the surgical pictures.  I hope this information is helpful. Look forward to helping if I can. Thank you.
