Shoulder Arthroscopy a Surgical Symphony

By Steve Mora MD

Orange County Shoulder Specialist

Shoulder Arthroscopy can be very challenging. Success depends on an infinite number of details. Everything from positioning, anesthetic, pump, portal trajectories, traction vectors, shavers, cautery and much more needs upmost attention.

▶️ It’s like an orchestra. Everyone has an important part!

Not only is it tricky to just get into the joint but once you are in it takes delicate, fine, gentle, and exact movements to maneuver the camera properly. Even harder then all this is doing complex reconstructive work such as re-attaching a big rotator cuff tear or stabilizing a loose joint. And if that’s not enough pressure, all the work needs to be done efficiently and safely.

The best way to summarize this procedure is that it takes special training (fellowship preferably), experience (10 years is good start), great hand eye coordination and a kick butt orchestra (team) in the OR.
