“Dr. Mora saw me after I sustained a gunshot wound to my left knee and compound fracture to my left ankle. The first doctor who initially treated me at the trauma center told me that I would have to retire from police work due to the extent of the injuries. I have to admit my heart sank because I love my job and profession. After that doctor left, I spoke to my chief and my wife and discussed having my leg amputated so that I would be able to return to work and get back to streets. They both agreed that if i felt that committed to my job then I should take the chance and lose the leg. My wife called the doctor back and told him my plan to have the leg amputated he said if I still wanted it done in a week that he would arrange it.
My partner from work introduced me to Dr. Mora the following week. Dr. Mora not only treated me but assured me that he could repair my leg and return me to work. Dr. Mora gave me hope and lifted my spirits which were at an all time low. It wasn’t the pain that had me feeling that way because we all know pain is temporally it was the hopelessness that the first doctor made me feel.
Dr. Mora conducted an operation on my knee that lasted almost ten hours. It consisted of a bone graft and many other procedures that I couldn’t explain or understand. Dr. Mora stayed with me and was present when I woke up. I can’t explain how excited I was when he told me how well the surgery went, but I could tell how tired he was due to his hard work and dedication to detail. He returned to check on me several times until I was discharged from the hospital.
I continued to see DR.Mora throughout my recovery. He made sure that I had highly trained physical therapists and treatment throughout.
It’s been almost ten years since I was shot I’m still working patrol at a high level and my leg healed great. I can lift weights chase suspects, my kids and my wife life is good and without any complications. The rest of my body is wearing down but his repairs are feeling fine.
My family and I are grateful for the work you’ve done and your dedication…Pete”
